Six Traits of the Writing Process

If you want your intelligence and imagination to permeate your written work, I am the writing tutor for you. My writing lessons will teach you how to develop the following traits:

Ideas and Content: Ideas are the heart of the message, the content of the piece, the main theme, together with the details that enrich and develop that theme by building understanding or holding a reader’s attention.

Voice: Voice is personality, strong feelings, honesty, and sensitivity to audience. It is the heart and soul of a piece.

Organization: Organizations includes an engaging lead, logical order, smooth transitions, satisfying conclusion, the internal structure of a piece, the thread of central meaning, and the logical pattern of ideas.

Word Choice: Word choice is memorable phrases, appropriate to audience, specific nouns and verbs, strong verbs, and the use of rich, colorful, precise language that moves and enlightens the reader.

Sentence Fluency: Sentence fluency is rhythm and meter, variety in sentence length, and rhyme and alliteration. Writers achieve good sentence fluency, through logic, creative phrasing, parallel construction, alliteration, rhyme, absence of redundancy, and a true effort to create language that cries out to be spoken aloud.

Conventions: Conventions include appropriate grammar, correct spelling, meaningful punctuation, and paraphrasing. It is the mechanical correctness of the writing.
